FAQ
Questions, answered plainly.
How Cinema클럽 works, who sees what, and how to bring your history across. If your question isn't here, send us a message.
Getting started
Cinema클럽 helps you decide what to watch. Tell it a few films and series you love, and Tonight puts one considered pick in front of you. Wander is there when you'd rather look around yourself, and your Circle is the few people whose taste you trust.
Both. Tonight, Wander, your Queue and your Verdicts all work with films and TV series. The film and TV information comes from The Movie Database (TMDB).
No. You can pick your starter titles, use Tonight and Wander, save to your Queue and leave Verdicts without one. As a guest, all of that is kept in this browser only.
Your Me page, Circle and Letterboxd import need an account. When you create one, your guest activity is copied into it.
You must be at least 18 years old to create a Cinema클럽 account.
You start by choosing at least five films or series you love. From then on it learns from your Verdicts, what you've watched, what you save to your Queue and what you mark Not for me.
A Letterboxd import adds your history and ratings too. The more you use it, the more it has to go on.
Recommendations and discovery
Tonight reads your taste and puts one title in front of you: the one it thinks fits best right now. Below it are a few more picks, and rows built from titles you've loved and watched.
If the pick isn't right, choose Not for me and Tonight finds another. If it is, add it to Up next.
That title is taken out of your recommendations for good. If you turn down several different titles that share something, such as a genre or a language, your picks can lean away from it a little.
A single Not for me is never read as disliking a whole genre, and only you can see what you've marked.
Every Verdict, watch, save and Not for me adds to what Cinema클럽 knows about your taste, so your picks move with you. The catalogue changes too, as new titles arrive, and Tonight avoids repeating picks it has shown you recently.
Tonight decides for you, with one pick for when you just want to press play. Wander leaves the choosing to you: search films and TV, browse what's trending, uncover hidden gems, or narrow things down by genre and mood.
Anything that catches your eye in either can be saved to your Queue.
Circle and following
Your Circle is the few people whose taste you trust, and it's a connection you both agree to. Circle members see each other's full Verdicts and watch history.
With Ask my Circle you can ask them what to watch and they can suggest titles back, and you can recommend titles to each other directly. Recommendations from your Circle wait for you on Tonight.
Following is one way: you see that member's Verdicts and watch history. Following a public profile happens at once, and a private profile has to approve you first.
Circle is mutual and is how you ask each other for picks and send recommendations. The two are separate, so you can have either without the other.
It depends on your profile, which you set to Public or Private on the Account tab of your Me page. New accounts start as Public.
Public: any signed in member sees your 10 most recent Verdicts and the 10 titles you watched most recently. Your followers and your Circle see everything.
Private: signed in members see only your name, member ID and avatar. Followers you approve and your Circle see everything.
Your Queue and Not for me choices are private either way, and visitors who aren't signed in never see your activity. The Privacy page has the full detail, including removing followers and blocking.
Weekly Digest is a planned Cinema클럽 feature that will bring together recommendations and activity from your Circle. It isn't available yet.
It opens that member's friend link. If you aren't signed in, you're asked to sign in first and nothing about them is shown.
Once you are, you see their display name, member ID and avatar, and can choose to follow them or add them to your Circle. Nothing happens until you choose. You'll find your own under My friend QR.
Verdicts, Queue and watch history
A Verdict is your rating of a title, from half a star up to five stars. You can leave one when you mark something watched, or on the title's page, and your Verdicts shape what you're recommended.
Yes. With a mouse, click the left half of a star. On a touchscreen, tap a star again to drop it by half. With a keyboard, the arrow keys move half a star at a time.
Your Queue is where you keep what you mean to watch, and only you can see it. Up next holds the few you want to watch soon, Saved keeps everything else, From Circle collects what your Circle recommended, and Watching is for what you've started.
A title is added each time you mark it watched, with the date you watched it, so rewatches show up as well. Films brought across from a Letterboxd import are added with their diary dates where Letterboxd has them.
Yes. Change a Verdict by rating the title again, or remove it with Clear Verdict on the Verdicts tab of your Me page.
On the History tab you can change the date of a watch or delete it. Queue items can be removed from the Queue at any time.
Viewing Activity
Viewing Activity is made from your watch history. For each day of the year it shows how many different titles you watched, so you can see the rhythm of your year at a glance. On your own Me page it also names those titles.
Other signed in members only ever see how many titles you watched each day, never which ones. That's by design: it shows a rhythm, not a list. The titles themselves appear in your watch history, under your profile rules.
You choose who sees it on the Account tab of your Me page: Everyone, Followers, Circle, or Followers and Circle, which is where it starts. Turn it off and it's only for you. A Private profile always limits it to your approved followers and your Circle.
Letterboxd import
Yes, with an account. Choose Import from Letterboxd on the Account tab of your Me page. It brings across your watched films, diary dates, ratings as Verdicts, and your watchlist into your Queue.
Your export is read in your browser, and you review everything before anything is saved. Nothing you already have is overwritten: where a rating differs, you choose which Verdict to keep.
- On the Letterboxd website, open Settings.
- Open the Data tab and choose Export Your Data.
- Download the ZIP file when it's ready.
- Upload that ZIP in Import from Letterboxd on Cinema클럽.
No. Upload the ZIP exactly as Letterboxd gives it. If you've already unzipped it, you can choose the CSV files instead.
Where to Watch
Where to Watch on each title's page is supplied by JustWatch through TMDB. It shows where a title is on subscription, free, free with ads, to rent or to buy.
Streaming rights are sold country by country, so the same title can be on different services, or none, depending on where you are. Where to Watch starts with India as the initial region. You can change the country to see availability where you live. Choose your country on any title's page and this browser remembers it.
Nothing is currently listed for it in the country you chose. It may not be streaming there yet, may only be in cinemas, or may not be listed. Try another country, or check again later.
